Hometown: San Francisco, CA Year: 2017 Major: Philosophy
Joining the Syzygy community her sophomore year, Laura (affectionately referred to as Soter or Sotes) made an incredible contribution to the team during her rookie season. From her quick turns as a cutter to her snatchy grabs and willingness to layout for the disc, Soter is a great competitor on the field. Coming to the team with no prior experience—despite having played almost every other sport during high school—she impressed everyone with how quickly she picked up the rules of the game…and now she flies past people on the field! She’s originally from the foggy part of California, and has been adjusting to the sunshine and snow of Carleton, and a temperature range outside of 50-60° F. In her spare time, she loves going for long runs, discussing abstract concepts of philosophy, helping students with essays at the Writing Center, and drinking hot chocolate. One of the reigning food divas on the team, Soter can always be counted on to give positive reviews of the field snacks at Syz tournaments. With smiles and laughs abounding, Soter manages to keep practices entertaining, while still pushing her teammates to excellence.
